The Bread Song

Sourdough, whole wheat, pumpernickel, rye
Toast it, butter it or eat it dry
Buy it in a bakery, buy it in a store
Or make it in your kitchen - it's not a big chore
(chorus)
Mix a little yeast with water, salt and flour
Bake it in an oven about an hour
An old recipe that's kept many fed
Thank you for our daily bread

If you use baking powder, instead of yeast
You can still have yourself quite a feast
With cornbread, matzo, biscuits or pita
Try banana or nutbread for something sweeter

Get out the mustard, get out the spread
Lettuce, tomato, two slices of bread
Cut a piece of cheese, cut a piece of meat
You've got yourself a sandwich you can eat
(chorus)

When bread gets old, here is a plan
Dip it in egg yolk, fry it in a pan
And what comes next, I like the most
Pour maple syrup on - call it french toast
