He carried for his father at the Battle of Quebec
A warrior at 12 years old, on his own by 15
His journey led him to a place - the land of his dreams

From the forest to the field
From the the water to the hills
He's guiding us still - Sabael

From the Penobscot tribe in the deepest woods of Maine
Through the wilds of Canada, an Abenaki he became
To the Adirondacks, a new life he would make
The first one to settle by the shore of Indian Lake

Some knew him as a trapper, he had the finest hides
He earned a reputation and respect as a guide
The plants, their roots and berries, the animals of the woods
Their unspoken language he learned and understood

If you listen in the winter to the frozen Indian Lake
Underneath the ice, the wind an eerie sound will make
Like shrieks and whistles from a flute, secrets being revealed
