Snowbanks melt, geese are on the wing when spring comes, spring comes Dandelions bloom and robins sing when spring it does come in Days are longer, short are the nights It's time to remove the Christmas lights oh springtime has come Trade the storm window for the screen when spring comes, spring comes Don't mow the lawn till at least it's green when spring it does come in You could work all day till the house is clean Or lay in a hammock with a magazine oh springtime has come You're out in the yard, no coat at all when spring comes, spring comes Raking up stuff that you missed last fall when spring it does come in Your body aches but the garden's dug So pour yourself a frosty mug oh springtime has come The date on the calendar means it's time when spring comes, spring comes But the shadow in February wasn't mine when spring it does come in Take your long underwear to the attic in a box Run naked through the woods on the equinox oh springtime has come Oh one more thing before I go when spring comes, spring comes When you bid farewell to the wind and snow when spring it does come in You can put your scrapers and shovels away But wait until the end of May oh springtime has come What's that I hear? Is it your voice? when spring comes, spring comes You can sing along, that's your own choice when spring it does come in When you sing along it's much more fun But it's too late, this song's all done oh springtime has come © 1998 Dan Berggren / Berggren Music - BMI

A quiet night in August - not another car on the road I was somewhere between Raquette and Blue Mountain Lake With many more miles to go Driving with the heat on and the window open wide So the cool of the night could keep me awake Suddenly the car just died It's a mystery to me why the car stopped dead in its tracks And sat beside the road like a stone So I grabbed my guitar and pack Nothing looked familiar as I walked into the night Looking for a ride or a telephone That's when I saw the light A candle in the window of a cabin in the woods As I walked toward the porch the door opened up By a woman whose face was good I asked her my questions, she answered she had no phone Then told me to rest and gave me a cup And said, "Make yourself at home" It might have been the drink or driving too long But the rest of that night was like a trance With stories and with songs We pictured all the places that the other hadn't gone Till the music and the words began to dance They danced into the dawn *Oh the hours that we spent were filled with stories And the magic of those stores filled the air It opened my eyes and made me realize: You can hear spirits breathing When you believe words are weaving our lives That woman cast a spell with all the stories she could tell And she said, "Stories keep the kingdom well" It was on a quiet morning that didn't feel quite real I thought to myself - nothing's what it seems As I awoke behind the wheel The engine started right away when I turned the key I know you're probably thinking - it was a dream But I believe it happened to me Sometimes when I'm driving between Raquette and Blue Mountain Lake Or sometimes at the end of the day When I'm half awake I remember every story she told - I can even hear her And you know that August morning when I drove away? I saw her in the rear view mirror * © 1988 Dan Berggren / Berggren Music (BMI)

about

Sittin' in your kitchen, and our kitchen, and every kitchen we've ever been in. Some are sprawling and some are cozy, but they're all friendly and at the heart of the home. It's the place to got to fill up on food and food for thought - the singing, talking, listening room. We wanted to invite some friends over to cook up some music with the taste of fresh, homemade bread and the natural blend of an all-day soup, and couldn't think of a better place to record it than a kitchen tucked away in the woods. Hope you're hungry. Pull up a chair.
